Narrative Essay

Chapter 1: The Story

The rain was pouring that night, so much so that you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. I guess it was a sign from somewhere. But you know me I never listen..  I should of just said no. But I didn’t.. Everything was fine until I woke up in the hospital trying to yank a IV out of my arm and swat away some spooked nurse who I guess didn’t expect me to move. I mean from her perspective I would of done the same thing, she was probably minding her own business repeating what she always does and then BAM!  Just like Michael Myers back from the dead I spring up from the bed.  This little incident I decided was the key reason why we moved in the first place. If that didn’t happen then what I’m about to tell you next would not have happened.
This all started I wanna say when I moved to a different school my freshmen year. This should have been a chance to turn over a new leaf, a new image and a chance to make new friends. If only I knew it wasn’t going to be that simple. I got my classes from the main office and made my way around campus trying to look for Ap Biology. Some kid that walked by told me it was near the main quad, so I walked in the general direction of his wondering finger and passed a soda machine and I sign on the wall that read “ school dance this Friday” I spotted a red door with R-7 written in black permanent marker on a small sign posted next to the door. Finally I found it, kind of a weird place to put a door but eh I found it at least. So I’m making my way towards the door by trying to take as much time as possible before I would have to open said door. Eventually I’m going to have to open it, I mean someone is going to walk by and watch me walk in slow motion and think I’m special or something. Just like at. Never mind. Anyways back to this door, I realized that I couldn’t prolong it any further and put my hand on the door and slowly turn the handle. I’m thinking to my self I really hope I don’t trip. The door comes flying open and in a flash I’m standing in front of the entire class.
I look towards the corner in the front and see an older grey haired man sitting at a desk with his glasses half way down his nose. I briskly walk over like I own the place, reach out my hand and say “hello I’m Sophie… I’m ne.” “Why yes yes I know who you are” said the grey haired man “please go have a seat while I find you a lab partner.” I look around real quick and find a spot towards the back in front of two preppy chicks that were painting their nails and talking about their plans for some dance I guess. I sat down in the chair and all at once I feel like a tiny bug under a microscope being examined by every move I made. Acting like I didn’t care I took this time to look around my new classroom. I noticed home made posters on the wall and DNA shaped beads hanging from the ceiling and a stack of un-used text books on a bookcase that looked like it jumped out of a 60’s catalogue. “Ahemm.. This is yours and Pat is your lab partner.” I looked down from the ceiling and found the grey haired man staring at me holding a huge text book, “Uh..” as he basically drops the book on my desk. “I’m Mr. Ike by the way, homework is usually on the front board and is expected on the next day right when you come in. This book is to be with you 24/7 and that’s about it, if you have any questions I’m in here at lunch on most days.” He walked away back to his desk as I was sitting there staring at thing on my desk that he called a book.
By now most of the kids stopped staring at me and went back to their conversations, I took this time to look around for my lab partner “ Pat”. What kind of name is Pat to begin with.. I decided it wasn’t a kid near the front with red hair or the kid sitting on one of the lab tables surrounded by a bunch of jocks. Then all of a sudden this kid who was near the door was looking at me. Like not the normally kind of hey look it’s a new kid,.. But the kind like he knew something like he wasn’t supposed to. I stared at him and then I hear from behind “see something you like?” She said. “Uh What?”  I replied..  “In case your wondering he is like the hottest kid in school, so you might not want to bark up that tree” she said. “I wasn’t barking at…” The bell rang cutting me off mid sentence as everyone booked it for the door. I was left sitting in my seat digesting what just happened.
The rest of the day was uneventful, I spent it learning useless facts about History, random math equations that made your head spin and your calculator cry and don’t let me get on the subject involving the school food. I swear it was crawling off my plate. The first day of a new school I manage to make no new friends, trip at least seven times, but hey at least by the end of the year I will have muscular arms from carrying around this stupid book.
I walked home after school and of no surprise to me my mom was not home. Whatever I thought, as I made a quick raid of the kitchen fridge and went upstairs to try and tackle some homework. Around eleven thirty is when I heard the garage door open and I knew it was my mom, not just because she is the only one who can slightly stand me but also because it’s the same routine every night. Gone before I wake up and home after I’m usually asleep. So in some ways I don’t think she can stand me. In a weeks time we spend maybe two or three hours in the same room, I guess that’s my own fault. Its not like she agreed to fly all the way out hear with me because she had some amazing new job. No she did it because know one else would. I spent the rest of the night tossing and turning in my bed because of the same dream I have had since the incident. It plays out the same yet each time I watch it, I feel like I’m in it again except I’m seeing it happen through the other person. I see the bright lights swerve in to my direction and I slam on the  “ Hello you early risers its 6.00am.. the weather forecast calls for sunny skies and temp…” this in new… wait.. Shut up you stupid alarm clock I lean over and smack the crap out of it as it falls to the floor and continues blaring the weather forecast and traffic reports… traffic report… in other words  blue skies, four die in car accident,  text in to win concert tickets… I swear radio shows have no emotions. I slide on a pair of jeans and head down stairs and enjoy my morning ritual of frosted flakes and watching Mr. Sid walk little tinkle.

Chapter 2 :  Collision

I lock the front door and start my walk to school, although this is only my second day I have walked this path many times over the 8 months since moving here, which up until yesterday I spent my days at home or walking through the forest. I was not aloud to attend school on the account of probation and a psych evaluation saying I was unfit to be around or in the environment of other people my age.  Somebody fucked up somewhere and now I’m safe to be in the school-learning environment. I just think its because my mom couldn’t stand looking at me and paid someone off to write off that I am emotionally stable. What ever.. So I’m waiting for the walk light to switch over when out of the corner of my eye I spot Pat, yet for some reason he is walking away from the school, I’m staring at the back of his head when all of a sudden he turns around really quick and looks right back at me. Like he has some kind of telepathy or something. He motioned for me to come and I stood still like a deer in headlights…
Part of me is thinking hell yes I will follow you to anywhere. I mean come on he is like a better-looking version of Edward Cullen and his t-shirt is just the right amount of tightness that shows the outline of his muscular shoulders…  Before the conscious part of my brain got the chance to determine if this was a good Idea I booked it across the street in the opposite direction of the school and stopped just short of Pat. “Hello” I said. He just stood there looking me over like some kid about to devour a box of chocolates he was told to stay out of.  “Hi. I called you over here because we need to clarify some things.” “Uh ok” I said as he shifted his backpack to his other shoulder. Ok first off I’m completely grossed out when it comes to dissection, so you are going to have to take over. Are you serious… that’s what you made me run like a wild animal over here for.. .as he seemed to look genuinely upset. Fine. . I turned around to make my way back to school when he comes up beside me and actually starts walking with me, like we have known each other since birth. I noticed the closer we got to the school the more people seemed to stare at us. We weren’t even holding hands we just happened to walk in the same direction yet that was enough of a cue for people.
I finally got why Pat was talking to me about Dissection.. I walked into class followed by Pat and almost as if someone shoved road kill up my sinus’s the smell of artificially preserved  donor cat filled my nose. I put my bag on my seat and went to the lab station where displaced before me was a black cat pinned by the arms on a metal platter. It wouldn’t of been that bad if its eyes weren’t open.. “I’m pretty sure you have all noticed the cats  on your lap station, today your mission is to break into the rib cage of each of your cats, please take caution not to cut too deep we don’t want any cut or broken intes…” This is about when  everything went blurry and the last thing I remember is Pats hand touching my lower back, and him saying something  but I couldn’t hear.. I woke up in the nurses office with Pats jacket laying across me like a blanket, I sat up and all at once my head felt like it was going to blow up. I tried to stand up but my legs buckled and I fell off the bed. In one quick motion as if I never touched the floor I was back in the bed . “Wow easy now.. you hit your head pretty hard… the nurse says you might have a concussion..” Pat voice seemed to make my head pound even harder”.. ah.. ok.. please stop talking now.. “I said as  I covered my eyes with my arms.  “Well I brought you something to eat” as he put a brown paper bag next to me on the bed.  Thanks I sat up but he was no longer in the room. I opened the bag and found a chocolate bar and a little piece of paper that read.
Pat-  707-853-1125
Call me if you need anything.

I broke a small piece of chocolate off the bar and chewed on it slowly when the nurse came in and informed me that my in case of emergency is not getting off work to come and get me so I would have to walk home. “If you need a ride sugar I can give you one but I don’t leave until close to 6” she said. “Oh I’m ok I can walk I don’t live that far off.” “Just be careful and remember to stay hydrated” she said as she stepped out of the room. I lay there for a few more minutes until I happen to look at the clock and see that it displayed 4.23. I slowly stood up and manage to pick up my backpack and put it on. This was going to be hell I could already tell. I got all the way out front of the school and already felt like I was going to pass out.. I reached in to my back pocket and pulled out the small piece of paper. He did say to call if I needed anything. I took my cell phone out and punched in the numbers and called him. “Hello. Sophie is that you?” “Yea.. I hate to do this too you but can you come back to the school and drive me home?” “Yea sure ill be there in a few” he said as he hung up the phone. In less then a second a black car came out of the  school parking lot and stopped right in front of me. “Wow that was fast” I said. “I have soccer practice after school” he said as I opened the door and slide into the passenger seat. My head was still pounding as I laid my head against the head rest, I closed my eyes when I felt a hand touch the side of my right leg. “Wow… rea..” I opened my eyes to see pat putting on my seat belt for me .. “thanks” I said as I laid back in the seat. “Ok where am I going” he asked. “Go straight until you hit a giant pot hole then take a left.” “Do you seriously know how to get to your house with your eyes closed?” “Yep.” I said as I pointed forward and motioned for him to drive. “Well ok then off we go.” His car made a buzzing noise that seemed to sing me to sleep. I felt the little bumps of the road as we made our way I felt the pot hole and the left turn. We were on this road for about 5 minutes when I told him to take another left. “Do you even know where we are at” he said to me. “Yes it’s a left then the third house on the right.” I felt the car take another left and shortly after come to a stop.  I open my eyes and take off my seat belt. “Thanks for the ride” I said as I  tried to get out. Pat got out and helped me up the front steps of my house, I tried to unlock the door but ended up scratching the paint off instead eventually I got the key in the  handle. I opened the door and made my way inside. I turned around and saw pat leaning against the door. “Are you going to be ok” he asked “yea im fine. “He came inside anyways and closed the door.

Chapter 3:  Midnight

I walked into the kitchen and sat in one of the bar chairs, pat followed as he looked around I guess waiting for someone to come out of a back room or from downstairs to say hello.  “Know one is ever home” I told him as he leaned against the kitchen counter and looked at me. “What?” I said as the staring became a little annoying.  “Nothing nothing… I just don’t get you.” He said as he stretched his arms above his head. In doing this his shirt rose and the top of his boxers were showing. I glanced down and immediately looked back up when his hands jokingly went down and covered his entire groin  and made a girlie scream like someone just walked into him while he was taking a shower. I laughed and for the first time in a long time I was actually happy. The next hour and a half we spent talking, I popped some popcorn and we sat in the living room watching TV until I fell asleep on the sofa. I woke up around 11ish to the sound of my moms scream, I jerked up off the couch and see Pat tripping over the coffee table. “ I’m not trying to take anything I swear I just..” “Get the hell out of my house you thief I’m going to call the police” my mom said. “ Mom mom. He is not a burglar, his name is pat and he just fell asleep”  I stood up and got in-between my mom and pat. “He is just a friend, everything is ok” my moms ferocious look seemed to cool down some and she went from mass murder eyes to unwelcome guest.
My mom walked in to the kitchen to cool off and I took Pat by the arm and lead him outside to his car. “Look thanks for keeping a eye on me but you really have to leave” I said. He looked at me and smiled. “What? “  He leaned down right in front of my face and for some reason I felt my heart thump against my chest. I look up into his eyes and for a second I forget about everything in my past. Everything in my life that I can’t stand, wash’s out of my memory as I stand there breathing heavily with his lips so close to mine. I can feel his breath against my face as my eyes slowly close and the pressure of his lips take over every thought in my mind. Flashes of bright colors dance around in my head and in a flash as quick as it began its gone. He pulls away from me with a smile he turns and leaves me standing at the end of the driveway.  I look up into the moon and everything in my life seems like it will be ok as long as I have Pat in my life.
