Jamacia it up mon...

Lets talk about a bus, but let us imagine this bus in two different time eras. First picture this " There were three or four old mattresses on the floor and some really moldy looking sleeping bags and a couple of living room chairs with the stuffing coming out that looked like they came from the dump and a table made from boards and cinderblocks with piles of dirty pans and dishes all over it and old clothes and newspapers..." Now that you have that kind of picture in your head. It sounds homely doesnt it?. Oh lets not forget the lovely characters Richard and James. These are your average college drop out kids who smoke weed, drink beer and live in a bus in the middle of a waste field. Well maybe not "average", Im pretty sure they have gone completely bonkers. The have dirty habits, don't bathe and have no sympathy towards the world. Chappie lives with " The bong brothers" for a while until he sells a stolen licence plate to them and takes off with Russ. Lets fast forward a bit, to the same bus but in the future. "...Sunlight streaming in though the windows and then I saw all these incredible plants in cans and jars and wooden tubs and old barrels." Well this sounds more like a nice place. This is where in the story we run into a great character i-man. I-man is from Jamacia and is one with the earth and is influencing with the way he thinks and what he says. He grows fruit and veggies off the good parts of the land, ( along with weed). My first reaction was the I-man was another druggie, but after a few pages he turned out to be like a older father(one that doesn't molest him when he sleeps) figure to Chappie. But some strange things start to happen during the firework celebration during the 4th of July. I-man goes  in to run away slave mode and freaks out. Saying the explosions are gun fire. This leads anyone to believe that he got shot at alot, or was living in a environment that had alot of violence.
I-man is from Jamaica and is constantly talking about the wars, battles and suffering his people have endured during his life time. But to understand what or where he is coming from lets get some review in.
Jamaica is in the Caribbean Sea and is home to more then 2,847,232 people. Although its in the middle of the sea its economy is rich in agriculture, mining, and of course tourism. An estimated 1.3 million tourist visit Jamaica every year. Through the years Jamaica has been increasing in gang related crimes. Knowing this I believe I-man thinks of the gang related problems and slave stations in his home town, when the fireworks started going off.

Hallie Selasie- is said to be god reincarnate. He ruled in Jamaica and was said to lead eternal peace.
Rastafarianism- rejection of western society and movement or follower of Hallie selasie.
Bob M- Jamaican singing who influenced the social problems of his home land.
Malcolm X- inspirational speaker, who spoke of human rights, and the troubles of basic rights towards those of color.

BBQ!! MMmm...

Russ is standing over me as wake up from a nap I didn't even knew I took. I guess being in a room thats hotter then a sauna on a summer day makes you tired as hell. "Dude.. hah man you look like a BBQed pig." I gave Russ one of those this is all your fault looks, but thats hard to do when there's duck tape covering your mouth.Russ starts at the task of untieing my ankles as a loud banging sound comes from the other side of Russ's door. At first me and Russ think its just another one of the bikers dumb smashing fest and something broke but a few seconds later we hear it again. I rip the tape off my mouth as Russ collects a small bag of his clothes and personal belongings. On account that im ready to leave this hell hole Russ calls a home I wait on the balcony outside of the window. "Russ leave the poster we can get a new one.." "Shit no man this is my favorite one.." I came back in the window to try and tear Russ away from his beloved poster when all of a sudden we hear the lock to the door open and the door handle turn ever so slightly. Russ jumps and hides under a pile of dirty clothes and I jump on the bed and lay down as if nothing happened and I never moved. The door opens enough to let a figure slide in and in one quick motion the door is closed behind him as if the figure slid through the door itself. I look over at the pile of clothes on the floor and see Russ's shoe sticking out between a old pair of pants. The figure moves towards me and begins to take shape. That unshaven look, those eyes that gave you the entire spot light were staring right at me.. "Hey kid.. wheres my twenty.." If living with the bikers have taught me anything it would be running. I jumped off Russ's bed and ran towards the open window, half of me was out of the window when I felt a strong hand on my foot, I looked down and saw the hand of Buster Brown pulling me back in, I kicked my legs and let out a  "Get the hell off me you freak.." in the process of trying to get out I managed to knock the curtains off and rip down the curtain rod. Just when I thought I couldnt pull myself away the grip on my foot loosened "Get your hands off of him.. Man.."  Turning around I noticed Russ was on Busters back and choking him with a old sock, his face was a deep red and he let go of my foot and slumped to the floor, Russ had a tight grip on the sock around busters neck and was still pulling as hard as he could. "Russ.. dude what the fuck are you doing let go.... knock it off man.. he has had enough" I said as Russ was still holding tightly. The spot light in Busters eyes faded and his face was a deep purple and almost looked like a giant bruise rather then a mans face. "Russ knock it the fuck off..." I said as I shoved Russ off Busters limp body... " What the hell did you do man.." Russ and I looked down at Busters body... His eyes were slightly open and warm wet liquid trickled out of his mouth and nose. Russ was staring at him intently when suddenly it smelt like charred clothing. It was the first time I notice that I couldnt even see out the window on account of all the smoke. During my struggle I knocked over the curtains that landed on the space heater which fell on to the pile of dirty laundry.. " Russ we gotta go man, like now" Russ was still staring at the body when I was trying to plan a escape. The window by now was blocked by a fire ball of clothes, so the only option was the door. " Russ! " Russ snapped out of what ever was blocking his mind and looked up at me with a look in his eyes of shear panic. " Theres nothing we can do man... just leave him" I said as I picked up the curtain rod and wrapped my blanket around one end and stuck it in the fire so it would lite, the blanket started up in a few spikes then the fire engulfed the entire blanket with one arm holding the curtain rod and the other pulling Russ, we ran towards the door and opened it with out looking back, the bikers were all chilling out and smoking shunk when we came through. " What the fuc..." was all joker said before I threw the curtain rod and all onto the sofa where immediately it started on fire in a blaze of colors. Russ and me pushed past the boxes of stolen VCRS  and managed to get through the front door and took two steps at a time, which then landed us outside the video den " Get down" Russ screamed as part of the steps collapsed nearly knocking Russ in to me. Screams filled our ears as we ran further and further down the dark alley. Taking a glance behind me I saw a explosion of dark reds and oranges...

Mannequines anyone...

The Author of Rule of the Bone writes in a way that captures and portrays a teenager. From the mindless cursing to the lack of any real punctuations. If someone showed me a sample or writing from this I book I would guess that the speaker is younger, because the writing style does not sound like anything a educated adult would say.

The Canadian and the little girl with him seemed really wrong. Can I hear three cheers for feeling a little bit scared and creeped out. "HIP HIP WOO..HIP HIP WOO..HIP HIP..WOO". I mean sure he could have been a great guy, but I don't know any parent who has kids and make them wear summer attire during winter when its snowing. Let alone the girl didn't even have socks on, and seemed fully out of it and roaming around a packed mall during the crazy cramped holiday season. I don't know about you but that's like worse then black Friday.. I personally do not trust this "Canadian" (granted he might not even be Canadian). Too many signs point to.. well a few things.. 1.Mass Murderer 2.Child pedophile 3.Crack Addict... personally I don't trust any of those...
Chappie goes back to the event that happened not too long ago, where he was caught stealing things from Victoria's secret, this is where the book once again reunites chappie to his parents. But this is anything but the happy reunion. Chappies stepfather is willing to send him to jail and treats chappie like a little kid and wont let him explain anything. Bart who is a over sized "rent-a-cop" from the mall also treats chappie like he is a nose picking five year old with no moral standards and know matter what,he is always doing something wrong. Chappie soon comes to the thought that he is never going home, at least not if his step-father is still there.

So anyone who has read this book knows that chappie is completely hooked on drugs. But really how much do we really know about them. Lets break it down...
In the year 2009 alone 30.567 people were arrested for drug related incidents.

Rule of the bone...

The Main character... is Crazy.. In the book they call him Chappie. He lives with his mother and step dad in a house that doesnt have alot of fancy things. Chappie is always skipping school, smokes alot of weed, and is always looking for things in his house to steal and sell for money to fund his drug habit.. After chappie leaves his house and becomes a run away( even though he recalls that his parents kicked him out) he stays at his friends house who lives with bikers.. Chappie comes up with this crazy idea that maybe if he can get really nice presents fro his parents that they will take him back and forget about what he did... he goes on this really long ramble on how he will march up to the house with all his stuff and a bag full of presents and knock on the door and once his moms come to the door he will say Merry Christmas... and give him to them and then his step dad will let him back in the house.. Then as a family they will all go drink eggnog and watch reruns of the cosby show...I think he wants that loving home.. that place where he can go and fee safe and loved and happy. He doesnt want to be or act the way he does he wants his mom to love him and care about him. But he doesnt know how to change, he has been living like this since his dad left when he was younger. As he has this thought about the Christmas fanstasy I really think he wants a normal family, that he doesnt want to be this thing that he has turned in to.
At a first glance this book reminds me of Catcher In The Rye. The same kind of teen problems that leads to them running away. So far I like the book, I think its pretty cool how he write like a teenager.
Most parents dont even know why kids run.. why they pack up a bag and disappear... doing so research(by research I mean about five minutes looking at different internet sources trying to find a connection, so its not really researching)
The lose of a loved one(mom or dad) so the step-mom or step-dad takes over.
Under-16 runaway rates
7% in two-parent families
14% in lone-parent families
22% in stepfamilies
The facts tell an impersonal tale. It's estimated that more than 1.5 million U.S. youth run away or are sent away from home yearly, 68% are between the ages of 15-17, 35% had run away before. Every year approximately 5000 runaways and homeless youth die from assault, illness, and suicide.   (http://www2.lv.psu.edu/jkl1/runawaylives/) <--- info on runaways...
